About Hyperlocal Marketing

Josh Blackburn founded Hyperlocal Marketing in 2023 after watching a home service contractor get held hostage by a large agency: website locked, no way out. He has spent over a decade in search. Hyperlocal Marketing is built on one principle: clients own their website, their data, and their results. No long-term contracts.

Hyperlocal Marketing is a hyperlocal search agency running local SEO, Google Ads, Local Services Ads, Meta Ads, and AI search optimization for home service contractors. We help HVAC, plumbing, roofing, and electrical contractors across the U.S. dominate local search and generate qualified leads.

Why I started Hyperlocal Marketing

In 2023 I met an HVAC contractor in a small town on the Texas Gulf Coast. He was paying a large, well-known agency $5,000 a month for SEO, Google Ads and the ad spend itself. He was on a 12-month contract, more than six months in, and getting no leads. When he left, the agency took his website down. He kept his domain and his Google Business Profile, and not much else.

I rebuilt the site in a few weeks. I optimized the home page, set his profile to the right primary category and added internal links with more direct anchor text. He already had 320 reviews, so the groundwork was there. Within the first month he was in the map pack, ranking #1 for HVAC repair and AC repair. His phone finally started ringing and leads were coming in.

That's the idea behind every hyperlocal search campaign I run: you own your site, your data and your results, and you can leave whenever you want.

Before Hyperlocal Marketing

I've been doing SEO for over a decade. I registered the domain for my first affiliate site in 2014, got serious about it in 2016, and by 2017 I had writers and link builders working on it while I put in 84-hour weeks. It grew past 150,000 organic visits a month, and I sold it in 2019 for six figures.

In 2020 I went full time in SEO, mostly local SEO for personal injury law firms. Those are some of the most competitive local searches there are.

A personal injury lawyer and a plumber are chasing the same thing: the map pack and the top few results in their town. The moves that work are the same too. Get the primary category right, build pages for the money keywords and the towns you work, link to them from your strongest pages, then earn links.

Results for contractors

  • HVAC contractor, Texas Gulf Coast. In the map pack within the first month. A local rank scan on May 17, 2023 (a 3x3 grid, 1 mile around his shop) had him in the top 3 at every point for "HVAC contractor," "AC repair" and "AC installation," and #1 at 8 of 9 points for "HVAC contractor."
  • Home builder north of Houston. His profile's primary category was set to "Contractor." I changed it to "Custom home builder," built a new site with service area pages, and did citations and link building. For "custom home builder" he went from 6 of 49 grid points in the top 3 (10-mile grid, August 2024) to 32 of 49 (9-mile grid, September 2024). He closed two home builds worth roughly $400K to $500K each.
  • Electrical contractor. His old site wasn't mobile friendly and had no pages for the towns he worked in. I built a new one with service area pages, and his leads went up.

How I work

  • No contracts. If you're not happy working together, why keep going?
  • You own everything. Your website, its files, your ad accounts and your tracking. On your Google Business Profile you add me as a manager, and you stay the owner.
  • Week one is an audit. Your Google Business Profile, your website, and your backlinks and citations. I need to see where you stand and find the biggest lever to pull first.
  • Reports start with leads. Calls and form fills and where they came from, then profile activity, local rankings and how you show up in AI search.

Who I work with

HVAC, plumbing, roofing and electrical contractors across the U.S. If you can't invest for three to six months, don't start an SEO campaign yet. A one-time Google Business Profile audit and cleanup is the better buy until you can.
